Logistics Coordinator


Your Tasks

As a Logistics Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the seamless coordination of inbound and outbound trucks at Aurubis Richmond. This entails greeting drivers, facilitating their entry and exit from the premises, and ensuring efficient traffic flow. You will verify and audit all paperwork submitted by drivers to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, customs documentation, and delivery receipts. Anticipating arrivals and departures of trucks, materials, and shipments will be essential, requiring you to maintain and reference daily and weekly schedules effectively. Communication with drivers is paramount, as you'll need to liaise with them to obtain necessary information, clarify instructions, and address any concerns they may have. Additionally, you'll collaborate with internal departments such as procurement, inventory management, and production planning to ensure alignment of activities and resources. Managing documentation, coordinating with vendors, ensuring compliance with regulations, addressing security concerns, and providing excellent customer service are all integral aspects of this role. Proactively identifying and resolving issues, continuously improving processes, and responding effectively to nonconformities will be key to your success in this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Inbound and Outbound Trucks: Greet drivers and coordinate their entry and exit from the plant premises, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
  • Verify and Audit Paperwork: Thoroughly review all paperwork submitted by drivers, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, customs documentation, and delivery receipts, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain Daily/Weekly Schedules:  Review and reference daily and weekly schedules within Transporeon to anticipate arrivals and departures of trucks, materials, and shipments.
  • Communicate with Drivers: Liaise with drivers to obtain necessary information, clarify instructions, and address any issues or concerns they may have.
  • Manage Documentation: Organize and maintain records of inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring proper documentation and filing for future reference.
  • Coordinate with Vendors: Communicate with domestic vendors to coordinate delivery schedules, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely receipt of materials.
  • Address Security Concerns:  Collaborate with security personnel to enforce security protocols and address any security concerns or incidents at the point of entry.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers and other stakeholders, providing courteous and efficient service to enhance the overall experience.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Proactively identify and resolve issues related to transportation, logistics, and paperwork to minimize disruptions and delays.
  • Continuous Improvement:  Continuously evaluate and improve processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Emergency Response:  Be prepared to respond effectively to emergencies or unexpected situations, such as accidents, breakdowns, or severe weather conditions, to ensure the safety and well-being of personnel and assets.
  • Training and Development: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, and participate in company sponsored training and development programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to transportation and logistics management.
  • Ensure Compliance with Regulations:  Stay informed about relevant regulations and standards governing transportation, import/export, and safety, and ensure adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with Internal Departments:  Communicate effectively with internal departments such as procurement, inventory management, and production planning to ensure alignment of activities and resources.

Your Profile

Required

  • This role is Exempt status and will be expected to be available in case of emergencies after-hours.
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in related logistics
  • Proven work experience as a logistics specialist, ideally in an international environment.
  • Previous experience creating and presenting to various levels including relevant stakeholders and external partners.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and product flows.
  • Experience with transport web platforms (Transporeon)
  • Strong computer skills (business system, email, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (esp. Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials.
  • Good knowledge of customs clearance.
  • If filled with an internal current employee of Aurubis, individual must be willing to relocate to the US for a minimum of three (3) years with a possibility of extension upon approval, if needed.
  • Must be conversant in current DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Good in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and through teams at all levels of the workforce
  • Must be able to effectively present information to management and forwarder
  • German basic knowledge

PREFERRED

  • Possess an understanding of chemical or metallurgical (production) processes and requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, and layouts.
  • Speaking and listening language skills in a 2nd language is preferred, ideally German.

  • Passion for logistics and metals in general as well as clear willingness for self-development.
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility.
  • Must be able to exchange ideas and expectations in a productive manner.
